The Ones Who Almost Put Me Off Having Kids

Gosh, women can be really discouraging to other women at times!

There is a fine line between honesty and negativity.

Have a read of this article and let me know what you think.  If you're a mum, is this predominantly your experience?

The woman is right, it is like that in that people really do hand out negative advice like that but what she said in the bottom half of the article is right, when you are in the moment you have to enjoy whats happening and the special moments. Its just crazy really but this sort of negative advice applies to all sorts of areas in life. People will say 'wait till you're old like me, you won't be able to go out as much as you could when you were young' or 'wait until you start working, you'll wish you were back at uni with those exams' etc etc... We all do it but we can choose to ignore what people say I think. Its important to remember this sort of thing whenever we are in those sorts of situations ourselves. By the way, kids are hard work but so are a lot of things. All good things are hard work!

Amanda is right, there are always people who believe we want to hear their advise. Maybe they feel more important then?
Hope, though, they don´t succeed in bringing you away from having kids!
Maybe just sing a song in your head when they start talking? ;-)

No they haven't succeeded in putting me off having kids, but at times I still feel like I am bracing myself for a lifetime of criticism. I got so much of it for my wedding plans - people thought for some reason that they could control me that way. I am wondering how much worse it's going to be when there's a child involved. I'm imagining feeling like Duncan and I have to justify our every decision to some people just to get them to leave us alone (family particularly).

I think the crux of that article was not just bad advice, but that negative people will try to stop you enjoying the moment. I really want to be a glass half full kind of person, and enjoy each stage of life I find myself in so I'm determined to just ignore them.
